Clinical Manifestations and Symptoms of Purpura Kidney Disease

2012-02-09 10:04

As a kind of immune disease, Purpura Kidney Disease (or Purpura Nephritis, Henoch-Schönlein Purpura Nephritis) refers to general blood capillary inflammation because people are anaphylactoid to certain medications, bacteria, foods including protein variant, insect bite, etc. Common clinical manifestations and symptoms of Purpura Kidney Disease include extrarenal manifestations and renal damage.

Extrarenal manifestations:

50% of patients with Purpura Kidney Disease may have upper respiratory tract infection at 1 to 3 weeks before onset of symptoms. Almost all patients appear symmetric hemorrhagic rash, which is initially urticaria-like and then becomes high purpura. The purpura is more common in lower extremities and buttocks. Skin rashes may reoccur within a few months.

60% of patients may suffer from abdominal pain and about 30% of patients present joint pain (especially knee and ankle joints). In some cases, renal impairment occurs prior to rash. For adult patients with Purpura Kidney Disease, gastrointestinal symptoms such as systemic performance are not obvious.

Manifestations of renal damage

About 40% of patients with Purpura Kidney Disease have damages of glomerular damage. The clinical manifestations can be listed as follows:

① Asymptomatic hematuria and/or proteinuria, high blood pressure and so on.

② Acute nephritic syndrome. Patients may have hematuria, less urine output, hypertension, etc.

③ Rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis syndrome (RPGN). Patients with RPGN have blood in urine, urine protein, and occasionally high blood pressure and edema. Untreated, the disease may progress to decreased urinary volume (oliguria), which is associated with poor renal function.
