Auxiliary Examination of Polycystic Kidney Disease

(1) Routine Urine Test: There is no abnormality in early stage. There is microscopic hematuria in middle stage and parts of patients may occur Proteinuria. When accompanied with caculus and infection, there will appear white cells and pus cells.
(2) Urine osmotic pressure test: In early stage of pathological changes, there may appear manifestation that renal concentration function has been damaged even there are only several cysts. This change is not completely related to damage of renal structure. It may relate to adverse reaction of kidneys to antidiuretic hormone. The decline of renal concentration function is earlier than the decline of glomerular filtration rate (GFR).
(3) As the loss of renal compensatory function, serum creatinine increases progressively. Creatinine Clearance Rate is a sensitive index.
(4) Kidney Urine Bladder (KUB) can show the image of kidneys enlarged with an irregular outline.
(5) Intravenous pyelogram (IVP) can show sign that renal pelvis and calices have deformed due to compression. Renal pelvis and calices has a peculiar shape of spider. The shape of renal pelvis is flat and wide. The neck of renal pelvis is drawn out and become thin, which usually shows curve shape.
(6) B ultrasound shows there are lots of dark zones in bilateral kidneys.
(7) CT shows bilateral kidneys is enlarged with a lobulated outline. There are many thin-wall cysts which are filled with fluid.
