What Are the Possible Complications of Nephrotic SyndromeNephrotic Syndrome is not a single disease, but a syndrome characterized by massive proteinuria, low protein level in blood, swelling and hyperlipemia. As a large amount of protein leaks into urine, it is possible to cause a series of complications.

1. High risk of developing infections

Antibodies refer to the proteins carrying the function of defending the body from the foreign pathological substances’ invasion. However, in Nephrotic Syndrome, the patients lose massive protein in urine, which can increase the risk of developing infections. In return, infection can aggravate Nephrotic Syndrome. Therefore, if you show any signs of infections like sore throat, fever and so on, you should take them seriously and report to your doctor at once.

2. Anemia

Proteins in blood are responsible for carrying iron around in the bloodstream. Due to the protein loss, the protein in body can not function well leading to anemia. In order to avoid anemia, you need increase iron supply to make red blood cells.

3. High blood pressure

High blood pressure is one of the most complications of Nephrotic Syndrome. As glomeruli are damaged, they can not discharge the excess fluid and sodium in body leading to retention of fluid and sodium. This is a common cause of high blood pressure in Nephrotic Syndrome.

4. Increased risk of developing thrombosis in blood vessels

In normal case, the protein in blood keeps a balanced level, which can protect against the blood clots forming. However, the protein loss in Nephrotic Syndrome can disorder the balance leading to increased risk of developing thrombosis.

5. Bone problems

Bone problems may occur in Nephrotic Syndrome due to vitamin D deficiency. This is caused by the loss of vitamin D-binding protein from the blood stream.

Therefore, if you are diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome, you should go to see a doctor at once. In this way, you will be able to avoid the above complications above and prevent it from developing into Renal Failure.
