What Food Is Suitable for Patients with Chronic Nephritis?
Improper diet can not only aggravate the disease, but also reduce the effect of treatment. Here Doctor Wang in Shijiazhuang Kidney Disease Hospital reminds us that only when we know the taboo of the diet for Chronic Nephritis, can we avoid the food which is bad for recovery. What are the taboos for patients with Chronic Nephritis?
Ⅰ. Limit Salt
Edema has close relationship with blood volume and sodium salt. One gram salt can bring 110 ml water. If patients with Nephritis take excessive salt, and the urination function is damaged, edema will worsen, and blood volume will increase, which lead to heart failure. So it is necessary to limit salt intake, and maintain low-salt diet. The daily intake of salt should be limited less than 2-4 grams so as to avoid the worsening of edema and the increase of blood volume.
Ⅱ. Limit plant protein
Protein intake should depend on the condition of renal function. If patients with Nephritis suffer from Oliguria, Edema, Hypertension and Nitrogen qualitative retention, the intake of protein per day should be limited less than 20-40 grams so as to unburden the kidney, and avoid the deposition of non protein nitrogen in the body. In particular, the large amount of Fat moans alkali in the plant protein will worsen the intermediary metabolism of kidney. So we shouldn’t take beans and bean product as supplemental nutrition, such as soybean, mung bean, broad bean, soybean milk, and bean curd, etc.
Ⅲ. Avoid high fat foods
If patients with Chronic Nephritis also suffer from Hypertension and Edema, the adeps is as the negative factor for hypertension and edema. Fat can worsen the arteriosclerosis and restrain the hematopoiesis function, so patients with Chronic Nephritis shouldn’t eat more. But without fat, patient’s engine body will become weaker. So in daily life, we can replace it by plant oil for 60g per day.
Ⅳ. Limiting food rich in purine and nitrogen is to unburden the kidney. Some food which stimulates the renal cells should also be limited, such as spinach, celery, radish, beans, bean products, sardine, chicken soup, fish soup, meat soup, etc. These foods are with high purine and nitrogen. So when the kidney function is under insufficiency, its metabolin can not go out of the body, which may have side effects on renal function.
Ⅴ. Avoid spicy condiments
Spicy condiments such as pepper, mustard, hot pepper, etc is bad for renal function. In addition, excessive aginomoto will make patients thirsty and drink more. So it also should be limited.
Ⅵ. Limit fluid volume
If patients with Chronic Nephritis have hypertension and edema, they should limit the fluid intake. The volume should be limited in the range of 1200-1500ml per day, 400ml drink and water in the food included. If the edema is serious, we should strictly limit the water intake.
