IgA Nephropathy is a common Glomerulonephritis in the world. It prevails differently in different countries. According to WHO (World Health Organization), IgA Nephropathy is divided into five levels. Diet plans should be different according to different levels.
Stage 1—minimal change.
In this stage, patients can’t feel obvious symptoms, such as backache, mild edema, simplex Hematuria or mild proteinuria. Patients need to supplement enough Ferrum, Zinc, Copper, manganese etc. The choices can be milk, carrot etc. Delicate fresh vegetables and fruits are also necessary, such as cucumber, tomato, wax gourd, watermelon, red bayberry etc. Meantime, patients should take proper water and keep low-sodium diet. Salty food should be limited.
Stage 2--Mild change.
At this phase, microscopic Hematuria appears, which is accompanied with proteinuria sometimes. Patients can take apple, semen sesame nigrum, agaric etc.
Stage 3--Focal Segmental Glomerulonephritis.
With the disease developing, the morbidity of hypertension tends to become higher. When it progresses into FSGS, hypertension will become one common symptom of patients. At that time, patients might take some food which helps preventing the elevation of blood pressure. Such as, fresh green vegetables, sea-tangle, agaric, oat, black rice, black fungus, nori etc. Meantime, patients can drink green tea or yoghourt.
Stage 4--Diffuse Mesangial Proliferative Glomerulonephritis.
In this condition, patient appears to have a lot of urine protein. They are prone to present hypoproteinemia. Patients need to take enough protein food, such as white egg, milk, lean meat etc.
Stage 5--Diffuse Sclerosing Glomerulonephritis.
In this stage, about 80% of glomeruli get involved. IgA Nephropathy develops into Chronic Renal Insufficiency, or even Uremia. It shows poor prognosis. In order to reduce the workload of kidney, patients would better to take about 20g protein per day. Egg, milk products or fish is good choice. At this time, if you are not suffering from diabetes, you also can supplement some sugar and fat.
Diet plans are great significance, but diet only can’t stop the damage to renal condition. Patients should also take regulate treatment for their IgA Nephropathy.
