Diabetes can have many complications. Among them, Diabetic Nephropathy is one of the most serious. There are almost no obvious clinical symptoms in the early stage of Diabetic Nephropathy. But to know something about the symptoms will help you to have early detection and timely treatment. Therefore, it is beneficial to learn the knowledge about it. Now I’d like to give you a brief introduction as follows:
1. Edema
Generally, the patients with Diabetic Nephropathy don’t have edema in the early stage. A minority of patients have mild edema before the plasma protein falls. For the Diabetic Nephropathy patients, if their urine protein exceeds 3 grams within 24 hours, the edema will appear. Only for the Diabetic Nephropathy patients with their disease developing fast, edema will appear all over the whole body.
2. Hypertension
Hypertension is one common symptom for Diabetic Nephropathy patients. In the case of serious Diabetic Nephropathy, it is often accompanied with hypertension which can accelerate the deterioration of the Diabetic Nephropathy. So it is important to effectively bring hypertension under control.
3. Proteinuria
Due to the increase in glomerular filtration pressure and the changes in the charges of filtration, microalbumin occurs in urine, which is selective albuminuria without the increase in globulin. This kind of state can last for many years. With filter hole of the glomerular basement membrane becoming large, the macromolecular substances can go through the hole and the non-selective clinical albuminuria occurs. As the disease is becoming worse, a large amount of proteinuria occurs constantly. It is a bad sign to have more than 3 grams Urinary protein each day. The deterioration of the proteinuria of the Diabetic Nephropathy patients is progressive until the Nephrotic Syndrome occurs.
4. Calf Cramp
Kidney can secrete a kind of hormone that can regulate the metabolism of calcium and phosphorus. When the renal function declines, the decrease of this hormone can lead to calcium reabsorption disorder thus causing decrease of blood calcium, osteoporosis and fracture. The calcium deficiency caused by kidney disease cannot be supplemented effectively. When calf cramp appears, do not forget to test renal function.
5. Anemia
The Diabetic patients with nitremia will have mild or moderate anemia. As for the anemia, the chalybeate treatment is invalid. Anemia is caused by the obstacles of erythropoietin, which has something to do with the long-term limited protein diet and nitremia.
These are the main symptoms of Diabetic Nephropathy. But different people may finely vary from one to the other. For Dietetics, it is helpful and rewarding to do regular examination.
