Olymic Games ten
Games were closely connected to the worship of the gods and heroes in ancient Greece. It was held as part of religious ceremonies in honor of deceased heroes. That is meant a concept showed in the funeral games for King in Book 23 of Homer's epic poem, The Iliad. It was also held in the context of many ancient fertility festivals. Many games at Olympia were connected with both the funeral games of King, established by hero, and a fertility cult involving any number of gods and goddesses who were worshipped at Olympia. The Olympic Games began to be usurped by the prominent cult of Zeus, and eventually lost much of their religious character.
